HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEKEND PROGRAMME

March 15, 2019

With less than a week to go all the arrangements have been finalised and we can look forward to an action packed weekend. For details of the programme press the following link. Programme.

Highlights include:

  • On Friday evening, a formal welcome from “the BM “ at College House including drinks and finger food.

  • On Saturday morning, the CH50 reunion alumni and their partners will be entertained by a number of short talks given by a small, exclusive and elite group of globe trotters. The brief given to the speakers by the Chairman was - internationally focused, with a touch of the exotic, geopolitically oriented and spiced with personal anecdotes. The session will conclude with a panel discussion between the old and the new.

  • Late Saturday morning, Don Miskell will give a presentation on The Christchurch Rebuild. Don is a Deputy Director of the Christchurch Central Development Unit (CCDU), the development arm of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA). In 2012 Don led the international multidisciplinary consortium made up of 15 different specialities which prepared the Blueprint. The Blueprint is the spatial framework which sets out the vision for the regeneration and recovery of Central Christchurch.

  • On Saturday afternoon, buses will take us on a guided rebuild tour.

  • On Saturday evening, the Reunion Dinner.

  • On Sunday morning, Chapel at Christ's College. The service is directed towards CH and it’s history, and will include a talk on the origins of CH and it’s early relationship with Christ’s College. This is to be given by John Rolleston.

THE DESIGN OF COLLEGE HOUSE ( By Sir Miles Warren)

March 16, 2019

This  youtube interview with Sir Miles Warren capture the essence of the College House design and the stories behind the architecture of one of New Zealand's most beautiful buildings.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxG6oSHvIqA

Sir Miles Warren designed College House. This was one of the first houses of residence at New Zealand's University of Canterbury new site, in 1966. Filmed in 2013, Sir Miles talks about why College House was designed in such a different way from most university halls of residence. Walk with him as he revisits the College and enjoys what he calls Warren and Mahoney's 'best ever room'. College House commissioned alumnus and award winning film maker, Seung-woo Hong, to make this video.
